Svetlana Rabey, Artist in Residence
About Svetlana Rabey:
Svetlana Rabey was born in Moscow Russia and grew up in Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY. After studying dance in New York, she earned a BFA from Parsons School of Design in 1996. Her intense dance training and the shadow of her Russian emigré heritage recur as motivations and symbols in her work across drawing, painting, and sculpture. She received the Marie Walsh Sharpe Space grant in 2006 and the Chashama residency program in Harlem in 2007. After the birth of her son, she shifted materials from oils and created a series of large watercolor works on paper. These works led to commissions and reproduction collaborations with IKEA, Urban Outfitters and Sugarlift. She has been a recipient of the NYFA drawing fellowship 2015 and the Chashama Exhibition space residency in 2016 and 2018. Svetlana lives and works in New York City with her son and husband.
About the Artist Residency:
In its inaugural year, the High Line Nine x Sugarlift Artist Residency celebrates the energy, candor and resiliency of the beautiful city we call home. In lieu of packed gallery openings during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re excited for an engaging and inspiring alternative: the chance to see artists’ creation processes in the very Chelsea windows that often display their finished art pieces. Here, the city has the rare opportunity to see one of its talented artists at work for an extended period.
Sugarlift is a gallery and online marketplace that connects collectors directly with today’s best emerging artists. Our mission is help more artists create sustainable careers by finding a new audience of collectors. Since 2014, we’ve helped thousands of art buyers find artwork from emerging and established artists in New York City and beyond. Learn more at sugarlift.com.
